How To Mediate In Your Home
Meditation is a simple activity with profound benefits. It is nothing less than a life-transforming skill, which you need to acquire with patience and practice. - Find a positive environment
Many people like to meditate in parks and on the beach, but we understand how it can be difficult to find such conducive environments for everyone. So go ahead and find a peaceful place, where no one will come to bother you for at least 10 minutes. It can be your bedroom, your garage or your basement.
2. Be comfortable
Sit cross-legged on a rug or a mat. If you are not used to yoga, do not force yourself into a lotus position. You can also sit on a chair if you have knee or back problems. The idea is to keep your body comfortable and relaxed. Always wear comfortable and loose clothing that allows you to sit comfortably in any position you want.
3. Focus on your breathing
The key to all kinds of meditation is breathing. Focus on your inhalation and exhalation. Feel how your chest rises and falls with each breath. Slowly inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth. Keep your breathing regular but deep. You can also try different kinds of pranayama to regulate your breathing and focus on the same.
4. Increase awareness
It is common for people to hear more when they are trying to focus on their breathing. You will feel calmer, and that is a great sign! You will be more aware of your being and your surroundings. That is great too, but your mind will try to wander. You will have to keep your thoughts from straying and bring it back to breathing. Once you do it on a regular basis, you will find it much easier to concentrate for longer spans of time.
5. Ending the session
Do not jump up or start fidgeting with your phone immediately. When your session ends, slowly open your eyes and get up. You can do a few stretches to mobilize your joints and energize yourself for the day.
