Pulled pork is something you buy. You don’t make it. It’s impossible to make that tasty and flaky pulled pork at home! What you need to do is go to the most famous BBQ shack in town and get one. Or maybe, get a dozen and stockpile it in your fridge, err, or not!
Making a barbecued pulled pork is not actually magical and covered in mystery. Alright, you may not get it the first time, but, this is not a joint exclusive thingy! You don’t even need an expensive 24-hour barbecue smoker to make one! Let me give you something you could try with a crock pot!

Nothing beats a good dose of pulled pork on a perfect sunny day. Nothing beats a dose of pulled pork when your down on a gloomy day. Nothing beats a dose of pulled pork to celebrate a won game. Nothing beats a dose of pulled pork when your mending your broken heart.
Basically, it seems like nothing beats pulled pork anytime! Well, I know, many would agree to this! There are many ways to enjoy them too!
Pulled Pork Sandwich
An easy and convenient way to enjoy them is on a sandwich. If you got yourself a tub full of pulled pork, you could easily make a sandwich out of them! Have some sliced tomatoes, pickles, and lettuce with it!
Pulled Pork Bun
This is a classic. This is what you often buy at the shack. Yes, I agree with you. They are awesome. I don’t know what is it with pulled pork on buns that makes is delicious. Maybe it has to do something with the way they toast the bun (or maybe the sauce!).
Pulled Pork Burrito
A burrito filled with pulled pork is another dose of goodness wrapped with pita! That zesty lime gives it an awesome zing!
Pulled Pork Rice Toppings
Heck, you can have it with rice! Steamed rice and pulled pork is a nice combination too. If you haven’t tried this yet, I think, you should!
Low Carb Pulled Pork
I know how much you like pulled pork. That’s why you got to this page in the first place! But I also know that you find some recipes on joints a little too sweet. Just too many syrups and sugar and everything that that adds up to the calories! Here’s a low carb pulled pork recipe you may want to try and enjoy!
Essentially, you should have a crock pot to make this! So, unbox that long-forgotten crock pot and start slicing the ingredients! Yes, take note there will be no heavy syrups and too much sugar!
Here are the ingredients you will need to make this amazing recipe!
- 3 lbs pork shoulders (Boston butt, preferably boneless)
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp freshly ground pepper (you can go with commercially bought ground pepper, but freshly ground is way, way, better.)
- 1 tsp paprika
- ½ tsp celery salt (optional)
- ½ tsp ground cloves
- ½ tsp mustard powder
- 1 cup pork stock
- A dash of ground cloves
- Chili flakes to taste (optional)
- 1 cup low-calorie ketchup (you can use tomato sauce, but you will need to add 4packets of low-calorie sweetener)
- 1tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1tbsp hot sauce
- 2tbsp heaping turbinado sugar (if you want it less sweet, you can skip this)
- ½ tsp salt
Mix all the dry ingredients to make a dry rub and rub it all over your meat. Rub generously! Place the pork stock in the crock pot and put the meat in. It may seem like 1 cup stock it too little, but it’s not! The moisture content of the meat will mix with the stock.
Set your crock pot on high and cook for four hours. Now, you still have time to watch about 4 or eight episodes of your favorite series!
Take the meat out of the crockpot. I know, the meat is already falling apart! That’s good! You will be pulling them apart anyway! Pull the meat loosely apart using a fork. Skim all the solids from the reduction in a pot so you could cook the sauce.
Mix all the sauce ingredient in the reduction. Stir until you get a homogenous solution. Cook for about ten more minutes or until the sauce has thickened.
Mix the pulled pork and stir until every bit of meat is evenly coated with the sauce.
Serve with your favorite side while it’s hot!
Pro Tip #1:
Double the recipe so that you will yield with a large batch. Store in an airtight container and put in the fridge. It can last a few weeks if you observe proper hygiene in scooping portions.
Pro Tip #2:
If you love pulled pork that much, you can try different sauces over it. Instead of mixing the sauce, save it in a jar. Save your pulled pork in a different jar. Find some sauce recipes and try it on your pulled pork!
One more mystery is not yet uncovered by science. Scientists cannot explain why it becomes, even more, tastier when you reheat pulled pork! I don’t know either, but they sure are!
Cooking pulled pork is not as complicated as you may think! Cook a huge batch and invite some friends over. When you run out, I know, they would be begging for more!
