How to save seeds from your garden for next year

Saving the seeds for the next year is a question that bothers many people so if you are at least curious to know how to manage with this tasks in an easy way you will save up a lot of time and energy.

Select Plants Wisely
It is true that some plants are good for saving of the seeds and others are not. Of course, everything depends on you personal choice, however, you need to know that some of the most preferred ones for seed saving are peppers, beans, tomatoes and peas. It is because of the fact that the flowers of those plants do not require more specific treatment and are easily saved for the next year. On the other hand, if you choose the seeds of carrots you will experience certain difficulties because they usually require two seasons to leave their seeds.
Consider the Harvesting of the Seeds
When it comes to saving of the seeds there is nothing difficult at all. For instance, if you want to save tomato seeds you need to put them in a glass jar and to add some water. After that you should stir the mixture at least twice per day and when it ferments after a week you can place the seeds on a paper towel. When it comes to pepper seeds is easier than you can expect. All you need to to is remove the seeds from the peppers and to leave them to dry. As far as the bean and peas are concerned you may need at least three weeks until the seeds dry.
Storage of the seeds
As for the storage you will need suitable glass containers for the different kinds of seeds. Another option that you have is to distribute different kinds of seeds in packets and to place them in one large container. Some people prefer to store the seeds into the refrigerator but it is enough to ensure cool and dry place. To get rid of the moisture and to ensure the best protection for the seeds, you can add some silica-gel to the containers and the seeds will stay dry for a longer time. Another option for desiccant here is to add one or two tablespoons of powdered milk.
