Tips & Tricks to Get Pretty, Healthy Feet

Let’s face it, unkempt toes and neglected feet aren’t a pretty sight by any means. It could be a big concern in the summertime, as it means a lot of outdoor activities. Many women worry about strappy sandals and open toe shoes giving them blisters. Not to mention splinters and calluses. Tips and Tricks to Get Pretty, Healthy Feet

For most women, it is imperative to have beautiful and healthy feet throughout the year. It all comes down to keeping the feet moisturized and trimming the toenails. Even so, it takes some time, practice and effort.

Here are some tips that can make your feet look and feel happy.

Soak Your Feet

Soothing foot soaks can do wonders for sore, tired, or swollen feet. You can use gentle foot soaps in the shower. Add oils or aromatherapy salts to the water for best results. Make sure the water isn’t too hot, as that’ll make your skin dry. When getting done with your soak — it takes about 15 minutes — gently scrub off dead skin as well as toenails with a toenail brush and an exfoliant.

Remove Toenail Polish

Make use of a non-acetone nail polish remover for this purpose. Avoid acetone polish removers because they’re harsh on nails. Remember that toenails need a break from polish every once in a while. Constantly painted toenails are likely to become discolored over time.

Use Oil-Based Lotions

Many women apply a lotion after they shower or bathe. This ensures that the feet are “sealed” in moisture and prevents the skin from drying out. If the regular lotions don’t have a significant effect, try oil-based lotions. Petroleum jelly is another alternative. It can soothe and moisturize severely dry areas such as cracked heels.

Trim Corns and Calluses

Corns and calluses require a special attention. You can trim them with a callus file, emery board, or pumice stone. Do it immediately after soaking when they are still soft and easy to trim. Be sure to remove calluses regularly to prevent cracked heels.

Trim Your Toenails

Use a heavy-duty nail nipper. The best ones are made of stainless steel. Cut your toenails straight across and round off the corners to avoid ingrown toenails. Some women prefer pushing cuticles back. That’s okay but avoid cutting them.

Prevent Blisters

Choose your footwear wisely. While summer sandals allow our feet to breathe, they give rise to blisters with strappy wedges and thong flip-flops. The feet are prone to sweating and swelling in the shoes, which makes matters worse. When it is humid out, go for comfy flats to minimize or prevent irritation. You can also prevent blisters by sticking a couple of band-aids on areas that get irritated easily, such as the heel and toes.

Going to the salon is not always necessary. You can get a fabulous feet makeover on your own without spending a fortune. That means pampering the feet on a regular basis.

However, there are some serious foot problems, such as a heel spur, you can’t address by yourself. Prevention is better than cure. That said, take care of your feet and practice good foot hygiene.
