What Can You Do With a Busted Smartphone?

What can you do with a busted smartphone?

Well, that really depends on your phone’s make and model and how broken we’re talking.

Let’s say you trip and drop your smartphone down a flight of stairs or accidentally fling it into a toilet and find that some critical function has been lost. It will no longer text, tweet or has stopped playing YouTube and Candy Crush.

What do you do? Maybe you exchange it for a refurbished phone, sell it for its parts or simply drop it off at a recycling center. Maybe you do absolutely nothing.

But you are not the average consumer! No, you are the savvy, DIY type always down to save a buck. So, what are some things you can do with a broken phone that still maintains some measure of functionality?

Busted smartphones can be a goldmine for new parents

You could spend up to £250 on a brand new baby monitor system and mess up your finances monumentally, or you could just rig up your own with an otherwise unusable iPhone. (This method, however, does require the use of one functional iPhone.) Assuming your broken phone still has some audio/camera capabilities, you can stream both from the broken phone to the usable one. Do yourself a favor though and leave the busted one with the baby! (I’m not a professional in the childcare field and would strongly recommend consulting one before using this method.)

Who doesn’t have a little trouble sleeping now and then?

A broken smartphone can make for a superb white noise machine, especially if you have a white noise app prior to breaking your phone or your phone has its own built in. Get creative with your phone’s other sounds too. A cell phone can make for a great alarm clock (and already does for most people). For parents, a certain jingle may be just the distraction their infant needs, and they can change it up as often as they like.

Consider your phone’s other basic uses

Flashlight, calculator, note-keeper, contact/book, calendar, compass, games, voice recorder and more! An old phone could be the perfect accompaniment for a short trip and you don’t have to worry about losing it (less baggage!).

Does your phone still vibrate?

Use it as a massaging device!

Other idea’s

  • If you store old media on your phone, or can still transfer music, you could easily rig up a home theatre sound system.
  • Take it apart and teach yourself a thing or two about electronics.
  • If all else fails, you could always consider household decor.

Before you toss your broken phone, consider what functionality it might still have around the house. While the image of hoarding a mountain of old, broken electronic devices in a closet somewhere is one most people don’t want to conjure, smartphones are small enough to squeeze just about anywhere without junking up a place. With your old phone and a little creativity, who knows what you might dream up?

Can you think of other creative uses for a broken smartphone? Have you tried any?

Waste Away

There are often a number of reasons for residential property owners needing to get in touch with a reputable provider of skips for hire in their area, using such a service to help remove waste materials during a refurbishment being just one of them. There are certain places you can put them to benefit the planet most. Click here to explore the topic more and get in on the subject of helping as much as you can. After all, we can only start helping by doing!– However, just because it should not take all that long to find one of the leaders in solutions for people who need to shift a lot of plasterboards and other building materials, it doesn’t mean to say that we will be able to source a reputable firm in this line of work.

Nonetheless, what many residents will do to find a proper provider of skip hire services is looking for sites with relevant articles. Websites like ServiceSeeking.com.au could turn out to be extremely useful for Aussies determined to separate the chaff from the wheat regarding the procurement of a supplier of skip hire solutions. Of course, one reason to get in touch with an expert provider of waste removal services would be to ensure we stay on the right side of the law with respect to materials we wish to have taken away.

Indeed, ensuring we do not break any laws when using skips during a home refurbishment could turn out to be a very shrewd move to say the least.

Responsible Residents

Just like there are numerous building regulations to adhere to when carrying out a property refurbishment, people using skips for such jobs should also be aware of the laws regarding skip hire. By choosing a trusted provider of skip bins in Brisbane or in your local area that pride themselves in being completely above board when providing their skips for hire, homeowners with a refurbishment project in the pipeline should be able to have much more peace of mind. Indeed, there are a number of things that residents of Brisbane and other parts of the world should take into consideration before going ahead with hiring a skip or two when paying to renovate their home. In addition to learning more about regulations related to skip hire in your city, it is always a good idea for homeowners to become more aware of effective methods of dealing with waste properly.

Some of the more important pointers regarding good waste management practice can be seen below:

  1. Always buy goods that can be recycled
  2. Whenever possible – use paper products instead of plastic
  3. Choose eco-friendly goods to purchase
  4. Reuse materials as much as we can
  5. Make sure we segregate our waste

Safety First

It goes without saying that homeowners that will be working on the stripping out of materials in their home as part of a refurbishment project should make sure they wear protective clothing as well as dust masks whenever appropriate. Of course, not only is it important to ensure we do not put ourselves in danger with hazardous materials such as asbestos when carrying out a refurb on our house or apartment, but we should also consider the safety of our neighbors and passers-by.

Needless to say, most residents that take the time to adhere to common health and safety practices whilst filling a skip they hire for their property refurb will be interested in ways to be more effective with waste management methods.
