DIY Stovetop Potpourri Recipes For The Holidays

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Holiday cheer is in the air and everything is bright and shining. There are bright lights outside and everyone is smiling with cheer. Whether you’re in the snow or just enjoying the season’s greetings, the holiday season is a time to relax and appreciate what we have. To add even more cheer during the season, try making some holiday stovetop simmer pots!

These do-it-yourself projects are a fabulous way to customize your home with the perfect holiday scent you’ve been trying to create with premade candles or wax Simmer pots like this are longlasting and permeate through an entire house — making them cozy and cheerful for many hours at a time. They’re also safer than most candles, which is a great plus. A classy option for house parties, too!

All the recipes below curated by FragranceX can be made with a simple, general recipe.

First, measure out 5 cups of water. After, pour this water into a pan or crockpot. Some materials can stick on the pot you chose, so try to have a potpourri-specific one.

After these materials have been gathered, add your ingredients of choice. I’ve attached an infographic below for holiday recipes that are especially festive for this time of year. Lastly, turn on your oven or pot and let it simmer! You’ll start smelling the magic within minutes.

As for ingredients, get creative! Think of baking Christmas cookies, holiday stocking stuffers or family holiday meals for some inspiration. One of my favorites is the “Red Nose Delight” blend. No, it doesn’t smell like reindeer, but rather a homestead warm hearth. The blend uses cardamom and ginger to create a scent that is both sweet and woody. Dried cranberries are added for a slightly fruity accent.

Another great option is “Nordic Fairytale.” This blend has ingredients straight out of a Norwegian lullaby and is relaxing beyond your wildest dreams. The key material in this blend are elderberries. These berries give off an aromatically sweet yet thick scent. Once your simmer pot gets cooking, it’ll be hard to imagine you’re not in a Narnian land.

Regardless of your aromatic wish, you can find all 10 recipes below. Again, all follow the same instructions to make! Happy holidays!

The holiday season is creeping upon us, and it’s finally time to plan and perfect our fun and festive Christmas attire. Embracing the spirit of the season, the holidays are all about embellishments, glitter, glitz, and glam this year – nothing is off-limits, and ‘more is more’ seems to be the seasonal mantra. No matter where you’ve decided to celebrate Christmas this year, these festive outfits will have all eyes on you at every party you attend:

Sparkly bottoms

The holidays are the perfect time of year to wear something drenched in sequins and sparkles. So, feel free to choose a pair of high-waisted sequined trousers or a sparkly maxi skirt, to give the classic cocktail outfit fun and whimsical twist. To add some balance and symmetry to the look, pair these daring bottoms with an elegant turtleneck or a silk camisole in a neutral color, such as black or white, as well as a pair of high heels in the same color. Just don’t forget to complete the outfit with some eye-catching jewelry pieces that will pull the whole look together.

Shimmer and shine

If you’re a big fan of sequins and sparkles, then there’s no reason why you shouldn’t fully embrace them and go all out this holiday season. Instead of a simple bottom or a top, dare to wear a head-to-toe shimmery ensemble, as this is truly the only season when you can easily get away with such a bold outfit. Choose a sequined dress or even a sparkly jumpsuit, and then balance the lookout with a pair of nude heels and a clutch in the same shade. It can’t hurt to let yourself shine every once in a while.

Upgraded everyday dress

Take yourself from a work desk to a Christmas party by strategically adding a few elegant and festive accessories to your everyday outfits. If you opt for beautiful party dresses in more casual, daytime styles, elevate the outfit with a sophisticated velvet blazer or even a sparkly cardigan, and then complete the look with a statement headband, a pair of fancy heels and some dainty jewelry, all in the same shade of gold or silver. When it comes to the holiday season, more actually is more, so don’t be afraid to pile on the glamour.

Tonal metallic sheen

Metallic shades are a big trend this season, and a perfect look to try out during the holidays. If you want to fully embrace the metallic sheen this Christmas, try pairing two different shades, such as a gold top and bronze trousers, to add more interest and dimension to your look. If you’re aiming for a more subtle approach, however, pairing an all neutral ensemble with one metallic piece is the perfect way to make a statement, whether you opt for a gold skirt, a silver camisole or a bronze blazer. Simply complete the look with a pair of nude heels, and you’re ready to hit the dance floor.

Velvet separates

Being a modern take on the classic tux, a black velvet blazer is a chic yet sexy piece that’s ideal for elevating any party outfit. However, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t go a step further during the Christmas season and opt for beautiful velvet trousers as well, preferably in rich jewel tones, such as burgundy or forest green. Pair it with a festive top in a contrasting neutral color, and you’ll have the perfect party outfit you’ll undoubtedly fall in love with, and wear over and over again during the holidays.

The timeless option

When in doubt, you can never go wrong with that perfectly fitting little black dress – it’s a classic piece for a good reason. Sleek, elegant and effortlessly stylish, the LBD is the perfect option for any occasion. However, since it is the holiday season after all, it might be a good idea to upgrade it with a few festive details. Opt for metallic or sparkly heels in combination with a matching clutch, and then top the look off with some crystal or diamond jewelry pieces, to achieve that fun yet sophisticated Christmas party look.

If anything calls for glitz and glam, it’s the holiday season. So, don’t be afraid to go all out this Christmas with these incredibly festive party outfit ideas.

Make Christmas Easier on Yourself

Christmas-is-exhausting-give-your-self-some-timeYou want to enjoy Christmas. For many people, the holiday holds a special place in their hearts and evokes treasured childhood memories. As we become adults, the magic of the season sometimes fades as we feel burdened with the demands of Christmas. By taking a few shortcuts to make things easier on yourself  to put the joy back in the season.

Dinner

You don’t need to plan ahead and make a feast entirely from scratch. Save yourself the headache and spare your kitchen the mess. Prepare a few family favorites ahead of time then let someone else do the rest. Many restaurants and grocery stores offer full traditional holiday dinners that you can pick up in-store or have delivered straight to your door. Choose turkey or ham, a combination of the two—or even vegan alternatives. Then sit back and enjoy a delicious stress-free meal with everyone else.

Gifts

There may have been a time when you lovingly crafted homemade treasures for everyone on your gift list. Today’s lists are often too long for that and selecting special items for each recipient can quickly become expensive, not to mention difficult. Yet gift cards and cash seem too impersonal. The solution: order gift baskets for Christmas, Hanukkah or even New Year celebrations. You can find selections in every price range and please everyone from close family to new acquaintances. Order early and select a ship date closer to the holidays so you won’t have to worry about your favorites selling out.

Cards

Photo cards are much more personal than ordinary boxed greeting cards. For about the same price as most boxed options, you can showcase your family, featuring the year’s travel highlights and show off the new family pet, all with a personalized holiday greeting. Just a few cents more will save your hand from cramping, as many printers offer to address and mailing services as well.

Decorations

This is often the most cherished part of the holiday season and can be fun for creative people. But not all family members help willingly and some years it seems like a huge chore. If you don’t feel like dragging out boxes of garland, lawn decorations and nativity scenes, don’t. You can make a big holiday décor statement with a fabulous tree and a wreath on the door. Rather than spending hours on a ladder stringing outdoor lights, use a Christmas light projector to add a festive touch to the yard with very little effort and no frustration at all. Now that is something to celebrate!
