6 Lessons to Teach Your Teenager About Safe Driving

Has your baby reached the age when he or she is ready to start driving?

How did this happen so fast?

Suddenly, here you are, trying to figure out how to teach this no-longer-little person how to command a vehicle. Like, wasn’t it just yesterday he was learning to walk?

But take a deep breath. You’ve got this. 6 Lessons to Teach Your Teenager About Safe Driving

Here are 6 lessons to teach your teenager about safe driving. After all, that’s the most important lesson.

1.      Avoid texting while driving

Distracted driving is a leading cause of traffic accidents worldwide. And if you can instill good driving habits in your teenager before they adopt bad ones, they’re up for a lifetime of good driving habits.

This one involves leading by example. This means that you must avoid answering texts while driving — every time.

It’s easier said than done, for sure. But it’s crucial that you practice what you preach. Even if you think you can handle a little distracted driving, remember that your kids are watching. And they’re inexperienced drivers.

2.      Start slowly

Depending on your teen’s excitement level, she may want to get in the car and start driving right away. But that’s not really how driving instruction works. Your teenager should know that operating a vehicle is a major responsibility that is not to be taken lightly.

3.      Practice defensive driving

With so many distracted drivers on the road, your teen will need to learn to drive defensively. It’s not enough to know that your teen has safe driving habits. You’re going to want your teenager to look out for other drivers. Defensive driving involves paying attention to the drivers around you. Your teen will have to get used to anticipating other driver’s moves. This way, they’ll be ready to react at any moment.

4.      When to ask for help

If you can manage to swing the expense, driving lessons are always worthwhile. Not every parent is going to be a great driving instructor. It’s unrealistic to expect that you’re going to have the patience and calm necessary to teach your child how to drive. If you’re nervous while your child is driving, pay for a lesson or two, so your child can learn from a professional (with a passenger-side brake). It’s not necessary in every case, but it can save quite a bit of tension.

5.      How to drive in poor conditions

Naturally, you’ll start by teaching your child to drive in good condition. But once they have the basics down, it’s time to branch out and drive in less-than-desirable road conditions. Start by practicing in a light drizzle. Then, you can move on to driving in heavier rain, and then snow (if the weather in your area permits). You don’t want your child to face these conditions for the first time alone.

6.      The importance of maintaining your vehicle

Car maintenance is an important part of car safety, so stress the importance of getting the car serviced at appropriate times. If your teen sees you slacking on things like oil changes or tire rotations, they’re likely to do the same. And these things can lead to breakdowns and unsafe driving conditions. So if you want them to be safe, teach them how to maintain a safe vehicle.

If you’re looking to pass down healthy habits, safe driving is a big one. Start with the six tips on this list to ensure your teen starts with a foundation of safe driving habits. And if you would like more information you can read more on driving statistics here

Choosing the Perfect Bathrobe

Bathrobes are one of those personal products where pleasure meets necessity. Apart from being very useful, these robes grant the added benefit of providing you with a touch of exceptional comfort that is only possible with hotel and spa robes. Bathrobes from spas and hotels can be purchased everywhere today – even online. You would want to educate yourself first to ensure that you get the highest quality for your money before purchasing the robe that is perfect for you.

It is important to keep in mind that not every bathrobe is made alike. That is why doing research is very important when you are planning to buy your personal robe. Typically, robe sizes differ for men and women – although there also those which are unisex. Children’s bathrobes are also available. You could also choose whether you will go for thick robes or lightweight robes. Bathrobes or spa robes differ also with the fabric they are made with, most common ones include terry cotton and waffle weave.Choosing the Perfect Bathrobe

Here are a few valuable guidelines on how to find a bathrobe that will suit you best:

Bathrobe Fabrics

The type of fabric being used has a great deal to do with what the robe can be used for and how it will make you feel when you wear it. A bathrobe’s fabric will also tell whether a robe is of first-rate quality. Terry cloth and waffle weaves are considered the best fabrics for robes. A terry cloth robe is quite thick and plush while a waffle weave is thin and lighter. Waffle weave is also a popular choice used in spa robes apart from terry cloth. Because they are lighter and not very warm, the waffle weave is best used to cover up.

For bathing purposes, cotton robes are best used because their fabric can absorb water quickly. However, cotton comes in a lot of different forms. There are cotton fabrics of low, medium and high grade. Regardless though of the type of cotton fabric, cotton is still the best choice for bathrobes. Read ahead to know more about the different type of fabrics used for robes.

Cotton

As stated above, cotton has always been the primary choice for bathrobes because cotton fabrics are very absorbent to water or any liquids alike. After taking a bath or a shower, a soft and comfortable feel is something only a cotton-made bathrobe can give you. This kind of bathrobe is very cozy and easy to wear.

There are two distinct cotton qualities. First is the low or medium-grade cotton, this cotton type is usually combined with other type of material and are typically being mass produced. High-grade cotton is the second type of cotton. This cotton type is renowned for its exquisiteness and softness.

Bathrobes which are made with 100% cotton have a disadvantage, though. These robes get easily wrinkled after washing. It also has the tendency to shrink, hence, manufacturing companies either combines cotton with polyester to avoid this problem.

Polyester

Polyester, unlike cotton, is a synthetic-made fabric. Typically, polyester is mixed with cotton to prevent bathrobes from shrinking too quickly after washing and drying. Examples of polyester blends are microfiber or microfleece. These mixtures feel soft to the touch. Many people and businesses prefer microfiber or microfleece, especially luxury hotels and spas around the world.

Silk and Satin

During warmer weather, especially during summertime, the silky and airy feel of silk and satin robes are particularly suitable. While it does not have the same water absorbency attribute of looped microfiber and those commonly used cotton spa robes, silk and satin fabrics offer a light and fluid coverage during hot weather.

Microfiber

The durable microfiber integrates the light and airy feel of silk and the cotton’s breathability quality. Microfiber can be used to create a luxurious and svelte suede finish or weaved into millions of tiny loops to make the robe water absorbent and soft. Microfiber robes are ideally used after a shower or can be used when you just want to lounge around.

Cashmere

Cashmere robes are the ultimate luxurious robes which are cloud-soft. They are usually the most expensive type of robe. Cashmere is available in many varieties and it also has a vast quality option. This type of robe is usually bought to wear during the winter because it can provide the wearer an ultra-warm feel.

Chenille

This type of fabric is rapidly growing in popularity because of it’s cozy feel. Because of its ultra-insulating polyester composition, micro-chenille is a desired fabric for robes. The quality of the chenille fabric varies extensively. Both superior and inferior quality of chenille looks exactly the same so make sure to have a feel of the fabric first to ensure that you will be getting the superior quality which is super soft and lightweight. Bathrobe Styles

  1. Shawl collar robe

Typically, a shawl collar closes at the neck as if you are wrapping a shawl. They generally provide maximum warmth.

  1. Kimono Robes

The word kimono means a’ thing to wear’ and pertains to the full-length robes usually seen worn in Japan for major or formal events. These robes in kimono style are very simple and are made of light cotton material.

If you are into the classic taste, this type of robe will best suit you. Kimono robes provide a tailored fit with sleeves that are wrist length. It usually has a streamlined flat collar. Due to the stylish fitted look and lightweight comfort, Kimono robes are commonly used in spas.

  1. Hooded Robes

Hooded robes are suitable for people who want to extend the warmth up to their head. This type of robe is perfect to use after taking a bath, after a shower or after a swim because you could easily pull it over wet or damp hair.

  1. Cuffed Robes

It is called cuffed robes because of the cuff or the fold that you can find at the bottom of the sleeve. These robes are designed for both men and women and are often called Unisex Robes.

Considering Van Life? Remember These Key Things!

Van living is a modern subculture where people choose to abandon the traditional lifestyle of a house and car and instead choose to move around and live in a vehicle. Instead of having a specific plot of land to call home or a permanent structure, people who embrace the van life will instead spend their days driving from place to place, usually setting up camp in different cities. It certainly cuts down on expenses besides gas and maintenance. This is a growing lifestyle but isn’t for everyone. If you’re considering trying out this way of living, here are a few things to think about before making a big decision. Considering Van Life? Remember These Key Things!

Less Space

Having less space for sleeping and activities appeals to some people but not all. When you adopt the van life, you will be confined to the square footage of your vehicle for sleeping, eating, and storing your belongings. Since the lifestyle encourages minimalism, this is great for people who don’t want to own a lot and are looking to minimize their physical impact in the world. However, you will give up privacy if you are living with another person, so be sure you are good friends with them and have a great relationship!

If privacy isn’t a problem, be sure to invest in convenient storage items like discreet boxes and vacuum-sealed bags to store items like clothing. You’re going to travel a lot and laundry might be difficult, so it’s good to have places to keep separate winter and summer items as well as dirty clothes. Foldable cloth hampers are a favorite.

Cooking food can also be a challenge, so remember to invest in small appliances like a hot plate or a solar-powered oven to make and prepare meals. Some people even have a microwave set up in their van, but this is rare. Most people eat fresh, healthy items like sandwiches, fruit, and vegetables. Fancier food can always be eaten at a restaurant if you’re really craving that lasagna.

The Bathroom Situation

It should go without saying that most vans do not have modern plumbing amenities, and the van life itself does not include campers. How are you going to shower and use the bathroom? People new to the van living lifestyle often make use of gas stations and rest stops to take care of their bodily functions, but these aren’t always available. Instead, consider alternatives.

One of the most common investments for van life is a composting toilet, which can be easier to move than other options. It can be as simple as a bucket with an area over it for sitting, and the waste breaks down and can be safely disposed of in a discrete way. Showering can also be done with a solar shower, which is a bag which heats up in the sun and can then dispense water to form a hot shower anywhere you go. These water bladders can cost as little as $25!

Where To Stop?

This is often the hardest part of van life. Where on earth are you going to stop and sleep? Contemporary society is not conducive to people simply parking their van anywhere since most land is owned, and people are often suspicious of strange vans. Many people stealth camp, or catch a few hours of rest in a spot they technically shouldn’t be in.

When considering van life, remember you will need to plan out where to stop to sleep. Rest stops are always a good idea but not always available. Stay away from schools and areas with “No Trespassing” signs, as well as those with notices saying “Private Property.” Learn to be inconspicuous and see if there are public locations that don’t close so you can get your much-needed rest.

Conclusion

There are a few key things that are important to remember about van life. While some people romanticize the lifestyle, there are also some harsh realities for which you need to be prepared. Van life isn’t for everyone, but hopefully, this list helps you decided whether or not the pros will be worth the cons! And remember, it’s always a good idea to save up some money and make a few solid investments – such as purchasing a high-quality van – before going whole hog in the lifestyle.
