Safe Substitutes – 4 Healthy Alternatives To Consider If You’re Unable To Breastfeed

Finding yourself unable to breastfeed can be devastating. Torn between wanting to give your baby the very best and doing what is practical will leave you looking for the best alternatives out there. Thankfully, you do have options outside of breastfeeding.

Each of these alternatives can give your baby a great head start at life, meeting all nutritional needs. Some of the options are super simple and convenient, while others require significant time and effort but give you full control over what goes into the baby bottle.

These are the top four alternatives to consider if you are unable to breastfeed:

  1. Infant Formula

Infant formula is generally the first go-to when breastfeeding isn’t possible. It’s convenient, you don’t have to worry about mixing ingredients in the correct concentration, anyone can feed the baby, and as long as you stick to the correct brand of milk for your baby, you can’t really mess it up. Infant formula is incredibly well regulated too. While science is amazing, this is not your only option.

  1. Exclusive Pumping

If you find breastfeeding too challenging simply because you can get the latch right, it’s painful, or perhaps baby has a lip or a tongue tie and you’re simply unable to keep going, try pumping instead. A mother’s body makes unique milk – each mother’s milk is custom-designed for that baby’s body.

When you pump milk and store it, your body is still getting the very best custom-designed milk to the baby. This enables your baby to get all of the benefits of breastmilk without actually needing to latch onto your body. A good quality breast pump will help you to pump successfully and get your supply sufficient for baby to thrive. You might want to keep a frozen stash for days when your supply is low (like when you are ill) or if you need to skip pumping one day.

  1. Homemade Formula

Are you particular about what your baby consumes, but finding yourself unable to pump or breastfeed? You may wish to consider making your own homemade formula that can be as natural as you want since you control what goes into it. This is especially useful for moms who have babies with allergies or moms who want to make sure their babies are only consuming all-natural organic ingredients.

Moms opposed to cow’s milk can use goats milk, while others may prefer to use unpasteurized milk in order to give their baby’s gut the benefit of live microbes. Ensure you use an approved and safe homemade infant formula recipe.

  1. Donor Milk

Donor milk is an amazing movement with milk banks set up quite like the blood banks you may have donated to. Mothers who have the capacity can pump out any extra milk and donate it to a milk bank. The milk bank will test each and every donated sample, ensuring the milk is healthy and safe for babies to consume.

The donated milk is then distributed in a highly regulated process to ensure it is safe and fresh. Donated milk passes rigorous tests before it is distributed. The downside to this alternative is that donor milk isn’t always readily available.

Motherhood is difficult enough without fighting a pointless battle to feed your baby. If you believe you can breastfeed and you don’t know why it’s not working, book an appointment with a lactation consultant. These appointments can help you resolve pain, incorrect latch, and help to get baby to suck if there’s a lack of enthusiasm. Until then, an alternative to breastfeeding can simplify your life.

Three Home Remedies with Coffee for Beauty Treatments

Three-Home-Remedies-with-Coffee.If you’re throwing away the remnants from your espresso machine or coffee maker in the morning, you’re missing out on one of the best beauty secrets of all time. While we frequently think of used coffee grounds as being better suited for the wastebasket than for our skin, they actually have some big beauty benefits.

Coffee grounds have two major beauty perks. First, they’re gritty, which make them perfect for manual exfoliation. Second, they contain a whopping amount of caffeine. While most of us understand the benefits of consuming caffeine to wake up and give ourselves a boost of energy, few realize that caffeine can have the same pick-me-up effect for dull or tired skin. Here are three home remedies for skin and hair that can be cheaply and easily concocted from what’s leftover in coffee grinders.

 Wake-Up-Tired-Eyes

Wake Up Tired Eyes

There are tons of pricey serums and under-eye treatments on the market that remove puffiness and diminish dark circles. However, the active ingredient in almost all of these products is simple caffeine.

Instead of shelling out cash for these overpriced treatments, create your own with the leftover coffee grinds from your espresso machine. Mix a tablespoon of coffee grinds with a tablespoon of any skin-friendly oil, such as coconut or olive. Pop the concoction into the fridge for 15 minutes, as the cold temperature can provide extra efficiency when it comes to reducing puffiness.

Apply gently to your under-eye area. The skin here tends to be thinner than the rest of our face, so be careful not to scrub or tug. After 10 to 15 minutes, rinse the mask away with lukewarm water. No need to use face wash or soap; the leftover coconut or olive oil will provide an extra dose of hydration.

Banish Cellulite

Banish Cellulite For Good

No one wants to have cellulite, but it happens to most of us as we age and our bodies change in size. However, the caffeine in coffee grounds can stimulate skin cells, which in turn encourages the cellulite cells to fade away and be replaced with healthy new cells.

To use coffee to reduce the appearance of cellulite, you’ll want to create a gritty yet moisturizing scrub that can be massaged over trouble areas. This can be achieved by mixing dry coffee grounds with raw sugar or sea salt. To give the scrub a creaminess, add olive or coconut oil, depending on your preference. If you want to make your cellulite scrub extra luxurious, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil.

To use this scrub, step into the shower and massage it over problem areas gently. Once you’ve adequately massaged the scrub over your trouble spots, simply turn on the water and rinse it away, then proceed with your bathing ritual as normal. For best results, use this scrub two or three times a week. Remember to always follow a scrubbing treatment with an application of hydrating body lotion or oil once you’re out of the shower.

Give Brown Hair A Glossy Shine

Sorry blondes, but this best-kept coffee beauty secret is just for brunettes. If you have brown hair, skip the expensive salon treatments and use a few cups of strongly brewed coffee such as pour-over coffee to give your hair a radiant shine.

This treatment is not only effective but incredibly simple. Brew a cup or two of doubly strong pour over coffee, then allow it to cool and bring it into the shower with you. After shampooing and conditioning your hair as normal in the shower, simply pour the cooled coffee over your hair and allow it to sit for about three minutes, then rinse it away. Not only will this treatment leave your brown hair shiny and glossy, but the scent is to die for.

Big Beauty Benefits in Coffee Grounds

While you might not have realized it before, there are clearly some major beauty benefits in our coffee grounds. Aside from making your skin healthy and your hair shiny, these DIY beauty remedies smell absolutely amazing. If you want to get glowing without spending a fortune, use these home remedies to enjoy the skin- and hair-nourishing power of coffee.

Baby Gates: An In-Depth Buyer’s Guide

Baby Gates: An In-Depth Buyer’s GuideImage Source: Unsplash.com

Once your baby starts crawling, there is no stopping them from exploring now. During this time, it is very much advisable to strategically place baby gates along the house to make the adventures of your baby safer. Though it may not seem like it, there are plenty of potential dangers for your little one, like stairs or fireplaces. Many parents with pets also prefer getting baby gates to be on the safer side.

Baby safety gates are usually meant for children between 6 months and two years. Eventually, your child will learn how to open the gate or even climb over it. At this point, the need for a baby safety gate becomes obsolete. Thus, invest in a baby gate that is economical, safe, and durable.

It gets a little confusing when it comes to choosing the correct baby gate for your toddler’s safety. Since there are so many types of gates for different settings, knowing which one suits your home setting well is very important. In this article, we will have a look at the specifics of buying a baby safety gate, and we will list the best freestanding baby gate selection by Modernbabyadvice.

Types of Baby Gates

There is a large variety of baby gates that are custom designed for many different houses and locations of the house. It can be a nice safety addition to your kids’ room. The three most popular types are:

Hardware-mounted gate

These gates are screwed or bolted to the framing of your house’s door. These are fixed near the stairs either inside or outside, to prevent your baby from falling.

Freestanding gate

These gates are more flexible and are not fixed to anything. They are used in large areas to confine babies in a specific location of the house. Many parents prefer these kinds of gates to prevent the babies from running around the house and hurting themselves, and sometimes to keep pets away from them. These gates are mobile and can be easily moved around the house to any location.

Pressure fitting gate

These gates are very agile and come in handy when you want a tight-fitting door that keeps your toddler safe. These gates are fixed with pressure on walls and other locations of the house and can be easily attached and detached. They are a combination of freestanding gates and hardware-mounted gates, in a way.

Hardware-mounted gates are permanently wall fixed. These types of gates are more secure. They are mostly used on top of stairs or at doorways. However, you would need to drill them into your door frames or walls to fix them, and these will be fixed permanently.

On the other hand, freestanding and pressure-mounted gates are more free and mobile. These kinds of gates expand outwards until they are wedged between two pathways or two firm walls. These types of gates are used in apartments and single-storied homes. These are moveable and can be placed anywhere in the house. Another benefit of these kinds of gates is that they do not cause damage to the walls or door frames.

Opening and Closing Mechanisms

Baby gates come with different opening and closing mechanisms. You would want to choose something that is difficult for your toddler to open, while still being easy for you. This may sound a little weird, but many of the baby gates have frustrating mechanisms that end up complicating their opening and closing.

The three main types of opening and closing mechanisms are:

Lift-off: These are the most secure opening and closing mechanisms for baby gates. They are mainly found in hardware-mounted gates and are extremely safe. Most of the time, adults also have a hard time opening and closing them, so they just resort to climbing over the damn thing.

Roll out: This option is used for freestanding, and pressure mounted gates. They are not as secure as the lift-off gates but are secure enough for your toddler’s safety. These are widely used for fabric gates and can be easily opened and closed with one hand.

Swing open: Safety gates with this mechanism require you to squeeze the clutch on top of the gate together and then lift a safety lever. This might be a little less safe because toddlers are smarter than we think; they usually figure out the squeezing portion after a while.

These might also be a little tricky to open if you try it with one hand, so make sure both of your hands are free while passing through.

Bottom Line

There are plenty of safety barriers that you would need to keep your baby safe. But in the end, it all comes down to different risk factors that might potentially hurt your baby. On the other hand, you also have to consider how unthinkably enthusiastic your baby is.

Statistics show that for all the falls a toddler endures, 70% of the time, it is at home and from staircases and unattended areas. Make sure your house is baby-proofed properly before investing in a good safety gate. At the end of the day, it is all about the safety of your little one.

Oh My Heartsie Girls Wonderful Wednesday

So how is everyone’s week going? Rant Coming…Face-mask-debackle-frozen-sewing-machines-stopped-productionWell, my sewing has stopped for the moment, I have 2 sewing machines and they have both froze. I have over 25 masks cut, pinned and ready to sew, there are those that use a needle and thread however, I would want to sew by hand. I called to see what it would cost to repair, turns out $75.00 and they take my machine. I tried to troubleshoot, they are both frozen!! When I talked to the repairman, he said there are greases they use to lubricate and in dry climates can totally go hard so even oil will not penetrate…….So I decided I will find me a machine today. Wish me luck since so many places are sold out. Go figure everyone jumped on the sewing bandwagon to make the much-needed masks. I guess when you don’t use a machine for like 4 years things happen, wink!
