Indeed, baking soda is one ingredient that can boost your hair growth. It is an ingredient which is easily available in our homes. It is used regularly for cooking, cleaning, or even for treating some medical conditions. Women striving for strong, healthy and shiny hair can easily substitute baking soda for shampoo. Baking soda for hair growth is a safe and inexpensive option that can clean your hair, revitalize it and give it a beautiful glow. Although hair experts recommend that you should not use it all the time, benefits of baking soda for your hair far exceed the benefits provided by your regular shampoo. To see the results of the use of baking soda for hair growth, it is recommended that you use it once a week for about a month, you will be surprised by the amazing results. Still not convinced? Let us take a look at the benefit it offers:

Removes product residue

Even after washing your hair with shampoo, you get a feeling that your scalp and hair are really not clean. This is because there is always some leftover residue from hair products. Shampoos, conditioners, or even hairsprays always leave residue on your scalp and make your hair oily. By washing your hair with baking soda, you can get rid of the leftover residue and make your hair squeaky clean.

Controls dandruff

Washing hair with baking soda is a great way to reduce dandruff. Baking soda cleanses the scalp and removes the dandruff flakes from your hair in just 2 or 3 washes. It makes your scalp healthy and your hair flake-free.

Removes chlorine from hair

Baking soda removes chlorine from your hair. This is particularly useful for regular swimmers as we know that swimming pool water contains chlorine which is harmful to hair in the long run. Baking soda protects your hair against damage by removing chlorine.

So, you can see that by protecting your hair against harmful chemicals and removing them from your hair, baking soda aids in hair growth.

But to get all these benefits out of baking soda you should use it in correct quantities. Otherwise the high pH of baking soda may end up causing irreparable damage to your hair.

Below are the steps to use it:

  • Mix 1 part of baking soda with 3 parts of water (this is for short hair). If you have long hair (shoulder length) you can increase the ratio of baking soda to water. For this, mix 2-2 tablespoons of baking soda with three parts of water.
  • You can apply the mixture on wet or dry hair. When applying, lightly massage your hair so that the mixture spreads to all parts of hair, particularly, it should reach your hair roots.
  • Let this mixture remain on your hair for 2-3 minutes.
  • Then, rinse your hair with warm water.
  • After rinsing your hair thoroughly with water, rinse your hair with apple cider vinegar. Mix 1 part of apple cider vinegar with 4 parts of water. If you don’t like the smell of vinegar, you may add some essential oils like rosemary or lavender to the mixture.
  • Now rinse your hair with warm water (by tilting your head backward you can prevent apple cider vinegar from going into your eyes).
  • Baking soda is generally good for those who have extra oily hair. For those with dry hair, using baking soda might not be a good idea as it might make the hair even drier.

Don’t trust the model

When picking a hair dye box, don’t assume that the color depicted on the box will reflect your final results. Everyone’s going to have slightly different results, as your natural hair color will affect how well the hair dye mixes with your natural hair color. It’s important that you perform a strand test, to get an idea of what to expect.

Follow Instructions

The most important rule when dying your hair at home, is to carefully read and follow the instructions on the dye box. They are there for a reason! Re-read the instructions and be extra careful, if it’s your first time doing it at home.

Buy an Extra Box of Hair Dye

If your hair goes down past your shoulders, then it’s advised to buy two packs of hair dye so that you can cover your entire head. Imagine running out of hair dye halfway through the application process, only to be left with the other half unfinished. If you do end up needing a second box of hair dye, then apply the hair dye straight away once it’s been mixed and developed, as the longer you leave it, the less effective it becomes.

Test Before Applying

When trying out a new product, it’s recommended that you do a quick patch test to see how it reacts on your skin. Test at least 24 hours beforehand, so that if the product contains any harmful chemicals that may trigger allergic reactions, you can write it off. Never skip this step, even if you’ve done it before or trust the product.

You should also do a strand test when trying out a new shade of color. Mix a small amount of hair dye and apply it to an area that isn’t easily noticeable to test how well your hair absorbs the dye, as well as getting a feel of how long the process takes for your desired color.

Prepare Your Hair

You want your hair to be in tip-top condition before applying the hair dye. You can and should apply a deep condition mask a few days before the application process. Make sure not to wash your hair on the day as the extra sebum and natural oils on your scalp will act as a barrier that protects your scalp from irritation.

Before applying the hair dye, make sure your hairline is clean and you’ve given your hair a good brush so that any knots are untangled before beginning.

Section your hair into four parts using a clip so that it’s easier to apply: two in the back, and two in the front. Next decide which section’s you want to dye first, as it will end up being a little darker due to it having more time to process.

If touching up roots, apply the color starting at the bae of the roots and process.

If changing the color of the whole head of hair, apply to roots first, then comb through to the ends and process according to time in directions.

Be Patient

It takes time for your hair to absorb the hair dye, thus it’s important that you be patient. Follow the instructions carefully and enjoy your new look!

To finish, was with a gentle shampoo and condition, sometimes the product you purchased will have a conditioner to use after washing hair. Use as directed to finish you at home hair color process.

3 Things You Can Do If You Lose Your Eyelashes During Chemo

3-Things-You-Can-Do-If-You-Lose-Your-Eyelashes-During-ChemoWhen you’re going through chemotherapy, the last thing you’re thinking about is your looks. You may be feeling weak, nauseous, or just tired. Worrying about your next full body mri scan for cancer will be your first priority until a big event, anniversary, or a birthday comes up. Typically after you’ve completed your therapy, your lashes could take 6-8 weeks to grow back. Chemotherapy and some radiation therapies can cause changes to your hair follicles. This means that your eyelashes could grow back weak or fall out for a year or more even after they’ve grown back in. The changes to your hair follicles aren’t permanent and your luscious lashes should grow back again eventually. In the meantime, if your eyelashes are weak or have fallen out, there are definitely ways to bring the definition back to your eyes. Take these three things you can do if you lose your eyelashes during chemo into consideration the next time you have to go out.

1. Accentuate Your Eyes

If you still have lashes, they may be delicate so heavy mascaras or those that require water for removal can cause you to lose more lashes or damage the existing ones. Draw more attention to your eyes by wearing dramatic eye shadow or eyeliner instead of mascara. You don’t have to wear a lot of eyeshadow to cause a dramatic effect. If you’re looking for a smokey-eye look, use more than two coordinating colors of shadow and accent the corners and arches of your eyes with darker coloring. If you want to use two colors, adding a darker color at the corner of your eye, a lighter color on the top part of your bottom lid, and a splash of color subtly around the arches of your lids can brighten up your eyes. If you haven’t lost your eyebrows, or even if you have, you can give the appearance of brows with eyeliner. Drawn on eyebrows will add more definition to your facial features. Drawing more attention to your eyes will take away from the fact that your lashes aren’t at their fullest.

2. False Eyelashes

Wearing false eyelashes is a great option when your own lashes are scarce. There are a variety of false eyelash styles such as whiskey, round, natural, and bold at various lengths. There’s a lash for everyone, whether you prefer long and sassy or short and natural. You can even get lashes that are colorful or vegan! Lashes that require glue are hard to put on and sometimes require precision. Magnetic Lashes are easy to put on, using magnetic eyeliner to adhere. On top of that, they can last for months if taken care of. When you’re feeling weak and tired, the last thing you want to do is fuss with lash glue. Think about using magnetic eyeliner and lashes before fiddling with messy eyelash glue and non-magnetic false eyelashes.

3. Growth Formulas

There are oils and growth formulas that help promote healthy lashes and lash growth. Before using any products on your eyes, check with your oncologist to see if the ingredients will react with any medications or treatments that you’re taking. The last thing you’d want is a reaction before your big debut. Growth formulas have been proven to help with strengthening follicles and promoting healthy strands.

Don’t stay home because you are not comfortable going out with your current eyelashes, give them a boost! Add more flair to your eye makeup to draw the attention away from your eyelashes. If you’re able to wear magnetic eyelashes, choose a style that you’re comfortable with. Keep these tips in mind for the next time you have to make an appearance, your eyes will thank you for it!
